ST. STYTHIANS MALE VOICE CHOIR
(Conductor: Ken Downing Accompanist: Kathryn Baldry)
The St. Stythians Male Voice Choir celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2007. It was founded in 1947 in Stithians, a village near Falmouth, Redruth and Truro in Cornwall. The Choir is a founder member of the Cornish Federation of Male Voice Choirs and has participated in the four massed Cornish Choir Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, London between 1980 and 2000.
Highlights of the last decade include gaining third place in the Malta International Music Festival and three appearances in massed choir concerts at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon, the latest being in June 2006.
Appearances on TV have extended its range of activities. The latest of these was BBC’s Songs of Praise from Truro Cathedral in November 2008 with other Cornish choirs.
The Choir participates in local music festivals and has competed in 2009 in the County Music Festival and the Fourth Cornwall International Male Choral Festival. The Choir sings throughout Cornwall and beyond.
Through regular tours and exchange visits, links have been established with ten or so other English and Welsh choirs. (www.ststythiansmalechoir.org.uk)
